My primary focus has been on delivering customized and purpose-driven solutions that enable value-based customer delivery.

Guided by a data-focused approach, I prioritize the cultivation of high-performing teams and the nurturing of strong relationships with stakeholders. In addition to my leadership roles, I possess a diverse range of skills that empower me to lead, foster creativity, and mentor development teams, architects, product owners, product managers, and other stakeholders. My ability to build relationships, embrace teamwork, and approach challenges with a positive, authentic, and confident attitude has been instrumental in achieving successful outcomes.

A significant accomplishment in my career is being recognized as Australia’s first Disciplined Agile Value Stream Consultant and Disciplined Agile Coach, holding the esteemed instructor designation. This distinction highlights my profound understanding and expertise in implementing and coaching Agile practices at the value stream level. Furthermore, I proudly hold the Professional Scrum Product Owner III (PSPO-III) certification from Scrum.org, a credential held by a select few professionals worldwide.

Throughout my professional journey, I have garnered recognition for my contributions, as evidenced by over 65 recommendations on LinkedIn, a testament to the impact I have made in the industry. Leveraging my hands-on experience in Lean Agile@Scale, I have successfully navigated and spearheaded transformative initiatives across diverse organizations. Several of these products have garnered recognition and accolades, with select pieces even finding a home in esteemed museum collections.

I use lean-agile practices to help organizations align strategy to action, improve their product development practices, empower their people, and delight their customers. I have nearly twenty years of experience in process development and product development and I spent twelve years building, scaling, and leading a PMO for a leading enterprise SaaS company through 20x growth.

I have come to believe that processes are valuable only to the extent that they enable good business outcomes, and flow-based systems are usually the best way to get there. But if we attend to process without considering how changes might affect the rest of the organization, we’re setting ourselves up for failure. Because strategy, culture, and processes all go hand in hand. When they’re aligned, we create the conditions for our people to do their best work, to be productive, and to deliver great outcomes for our customers.

I hold a MBA from Southern New Hampshire University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Organizational Leadership from George Fox University. I maintain PMP, PMI-ACP, SPC 6.0, and LPM 6.0 credentials, and I’m proud to also be certified as an Amplio Consultant Educator.

As an Agile Coach and trusted advisor, I have partnered with business and technical leaders and teams across various industries to drive successful transformations. My experience and insights into patterns across Lean Process Improvement, Product Management Maturity, Enterprise Data Management, shared services, and Architectures has proven instrumental in guiding stakeholders towards transformation success. I have developed impactful, just-in-time training for Global Agile Coaches that allowed one coach the ability to effectively mature multiple teams simultaneously. With over 300 hours coaching in intensive transformation communication programs primarily in the last two years, I have integrated communication distinctions into my life and every part of an Agile transformation at every level. I have coached, facilitated for, and trained dozens of leaders, Agile Coaches, Scrum Masters, Business Analysts, Product Managers, Product Owners, and teams focused on creating alignment and identifying core impacts. Currently, I am co-authoring a book with Al Shalloway called “Being An Effective Value Creation Coach”, and creating teams, templates, and training for Agile Transformation as part of Al Shalloway’s Amplio community.

Over the past two years I have spent hundreds of hours developing a deep understanding of the TOC body of knowledge, as well as writing and presenting on selected TOC topics, and joining in on the online conversation with global TOC thought leaders. Currently, I focus most of my learning on how to apply TOC to knowledge work, drawing inspiration from Amplio and TameFlow. See my blogs on TOC and other Agile-related topics on the Sevawise website.

My recent coaching opportunities have involved helping organizations scale their Agile practice via the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Achieving business agility when using SAFe requires people to truly understand the SAFe principles and not just blindly follow the practices. More and more, my coaching is focused on helping individuals understand principles and mindsets that are fundamental to achieving business agility, and helping them understand how to implement or modify practices accordingly.

I maintain my software development skills by building web-based Agile games and estimation tools that are made freely available to the global Agile community at Sevawise Games. I find it very useful to step away from the coaching role as I have time and to get “hands on keys”, building software products. It provides a firsthand opportunity to collaborate with Paula Stewart on defining MVPs, MBIs, and UX design.

Prior to transitioning to the private sector as a software developer, I worked in academia, teaching various courses in physics, engineering, & math, and conducting research in a number of applied physics & engineering fields.

My passion is to help people improve their lives by helping uncover their dormant knowledge and incorporate better ways of working. As a team leader for over 20 years, I have incorporated various processes and learnings over the years. Having worked in various industries and companies ranging from startup to top 5 banks it became abundantly clear that context matters when working with teams on how to accomplish their goals

Amplio recognizes that knowledge work is complex, and therefore requires systems thinking to understand the relationships between the components of a system. Amplio provides practices to focus on keeping work within the capacity of the team and to obtain feedback quickly across all levels of development, which helps avoid bad multitasking and speeds up the delivery of value to stakeholders.

My role is to guide teams and organizations to deliver value to their customers through effective communication, understanding the basics of human learning, and using the theories of Flow, Lean product development, and the Theory of Constraints. I am committed to playing an active role in helping teams improve, without telling them what to do. Instead, I strive to understand their context and learn how they learn, so that I can convey necessary concepts to different roles in a useful way.

I believe that an effective coach requires clarity on what success means, a deep understanding of the contexts in which they are coaching, an understanding of how the people they are coaching learn, appropriate ways to help people work together, and the ability to interact with learners to enhance their personal effectiveness.
