Amplio Learning Journeys
The Amplio Learning System is a complete approach to learning for individuals, teams and organizations. It incorporates a suite of learning journeys to enable effective, low-cost learning. Different formats enable people participate based on their own schedule. Training over time enable people to try out what they’ve learned in their workplace while getting help between the sessions.
It is organized so people can learn it on their own in a sequence of short videos and blogs that enable them to navigate how they learn. Twice a week live sessions are presented for more complex topics and as an opportutnity to ask questions.
Amplio’s training is done in a way to translate small investments into quick improvements.
Amplio Programs for Organizations
The Amplio Leadership Capability Program
This program integrates consulting with integrated training of your staff to carry on the improvement. The consulting lays out a path of improvement designed for your needs while creating a cohort of 2–6 leaders (portfolio, product, value stream, and team). Smaller organizations may need only two people, larger ones, more. Participants form a leadership cohort and learn the needed to diagnose, improve, and evolve the product development system through small, sustainable changes. Improvement starts within weeks and continues indefinitely because your staff has been made capable to continue it.

Creating your own learning center.
Looking to control your internal training costs while improving the quality and availability of training? Success Engineering has created the In-House Amplio Learning Center to let you manage training or add your own materials to the most comprehensive training available from one source today.
Internal Learning Centers are set up by organizations who want to drive their training costs down by 90% while increasing the control of their materials. Go here for more information on the benefits of this.
Learn how to solve your problems, not another framework.
Amplio is now taught as an objective-driven practice selection model
Organizations are too complex to preselect practices and then attempt to follow them. And too fast moving to expect you to fill in an empty framework.
Amplio takes a different approach. The Amplio Learning System provides you with a diagnostic tool to identify your challenges and provide options to solve them.
By teaching Amplio in this manner you learn as you need and adjust are reality requires.
All Learning Tracks incorporate how to coach and how to train in the materials presented.
It does little good to know how to do something if you can’t explain it to others. This is why every learning track has how to coach and teach the materials in it. This not only gets participants to understand things better, it enables them to coach and teach what they’ve learned.
Being a great trainer requires more than just knowing how to present a set of materials.
You need to know why they were created the way they were, you need to be able to handle questions about them and how they can be applied in different situations.
Participants can spend the minimal amount of time for the coaching and training or can take a learning journey specialized in coaching as well.

Amplio’s Learning Journey Format Is a Key To Being Effective
You don’t really know how to do anything until you can try it out in your workplace, take it to the limits of what you know, get some mentoring, and try it again. This learning cycle is what the Amplio Learning Journeys are created around.
Each week there are two 2 hour sessions which are a combination of new content and Q&A.
- Short sessions enables higher retention as well as trying out in your workplace what you’ve learned in the learning journey.
- All sessions are recorded.
- It has an integrated coaching workshop so that you can convey what you’ve learned to others
- It provides several collaboration boards to help you learn and to use in your workplace.
- You can use the PowerPoint slides while in the workshop license free. After you leave you are given PDFs of them to use license free.
- It has consultative sessions on demand for group consulting.
- Sessions are based on ensemble learning. Although Al Shalloway leads the sessions we run the sessions based on good ideas, not authority
Tracks for individuals
The Amplio Learning System includes tracks for individuals varying in scope and degree of commitment to the program.
These include tracks for:
- being a coach / consultant in all areas of product development (Amplio Consultant Educator)
- improving your coaching skills
- learning advanced product management
- improving Scrum with first principles and axioms
- improving SAFe with first principles and axioms
- people using Disciplined Agile

Actionable Increments Translate to Fast Learning
Actionable increments are small, concrete steps that can be taken immediately and that meaningfully change how a system behaves, not just how it is described. Each increment is designed to be doable, observable, and learning-producing: people can act on it within their current constraints, see the effect, and use that feedback to refine their understanding of the system. Their importance lies in how they counter abstraction, overwhelm, and learned helplessness. Instead of asking people to “adopt” a method, mindset, or framework, actionable increments let people experience improvement in practice. This builds capability, confidence, and insight at the same time, creating momentum through real learning rather than compliance or belief.
How the Sessions Are Run
The intention of every session is to be as interactive as possible.
Everyone is free to talk in all these sessions. The only topics not allowed are those that are political in nature. Although the sessions are led by Al Shalloway, he is not considered an authority in the discussions. No one is. In fact, the request is to challenge anything he says. The model is that we’re looking for what’s most useful. When an issue is not totally resolved by the person with the question, or the challenge feels they’ve discussed it enough we take a “Keep Qualm and Carry On Attitude.” The learner can bring the question up again at any time in the future.
A Special Note About those New to the Amplio
It is natural for those new to a learning journey to feel a little intimidated to engage. They often feel like they are latecomers (true) and that their engagement at this time would slow everyone down (not true). Asking questions, even at a basic level, is almost always useful. It provides review as well as creating an opportunity to see how the questions are answered. If it is a question that would derail the session, trust the leader of the session to say it’ll be discussed later, or off-line.
Special Consulting Sessions
In addition to these sessions learners may request a special consulting session. This is when a learner presents a problem the want help in. They present their situation and the session is then open for conversation about how to help them.
How Different Personas Use these Offerings
It is the responsibility of the learners to manage how they participate. The blend of recordings and live sessions gets the best of both worlds – both for scheduling reasons and for learning styles. Some prefer to just watch recordings of interest and engage with questions when needed. Others attend virtually every session. If a topic seems too advanced learners should ask the instructor to provide background reading or videos. If a learner can’t find a recording for a session of interest they should ask the instructor if one has been done and where it is.
The 5 tracks in the Amplio Learning System
The Amplio Learning System covers most of the scope covered in frameworks like Scrum, SAFe, and LeSS as well as all of the workshops formerly in the Disciplined Agile offerings. It presents and organizes this in 5 tracks:. The training parallels the structure of the Amplio system:
Portfolio and product efficiency. It is possible to have product design emerge without creating rework.
Improving workflows. This includes ways to break the iron triangle which has been disproven by Toyota.
Coaching and learning. Knowing how to do something is not particularly useful if you can’t convey how to do it to others.
Foundations. This is an integration of Flow, Lean, and the Theory of Constraints.
Value flow engineering. Using value streams to create visibility enables expanding effectiveness to scale with less effort than when they aren’t used.
Scheduling
There are run alternating between Tuesday mornings and Thursdsay afternoons. Specific times are not provided since they may change. Some tracks integrate more than one topic.
The following is the approximate schedule for the first quarter of 2026.
Value Driven Objectives. This has approximate 11 sessions.
- The need for Value Driven Objectives
- Value Driven Objectivies Overview
- How to modify your workflow to lower the risk of rework
- Design thinking
- Jobs to be done
- Human Centered Design
- Using VDO to align teams
- Using VDO to lower rework
- Summary
- TBD If needed.
