Capability Conversation – Product and Objective Discovery
Product & Objective Discovery
Discover Product and Stakeholder Objectives
What this capability means: Discover stakeholder objectives, context, required capabilities, subsequent outcomes, success criteria, constraints, uncertainty, and the smallest responsible value or evidence increment before locking into one implementation.
Working well when...
- Requests are explored as signals rather than accepted automatically as theobjective.
- Objectives, capabilities, solutions, and requirementsremain distinct.
- Success criteria, constraints, and important uncertainty are explicit.
- QVRs, prototypes, examples, or other evidence increments are selected intentionally.
First-pass conversation
- Who is the stakeholder, in what situation, and what progress are they seeking?
- What must become true regardless of the proposed solution?
- What capability must the product or service enable?
- What is known, assumed, suspected, and unknown?
- What is the smallest meaningful value or evidence increment?
Warning signs to discuss
- Feature requests become commitments without understanding the progresssought.
- Success is defined by acceptance of scope rather than stakeholder outcome.
- Large batches of analysis age before implementation.
- Workflow, operational, regulatory, or adoption needs are discovered late.
